Germany's lack of urgency became even more noticeable after the restart as Die Mannschaft looked to be managing the game rather than chasing another victory. Ecuador took full advantage and produced an energetic display, which was rewarded in the 77th minute when Gonzalo Plata calmly finished to complete the comeback.

Neither side found another goal before the final whistle as Ecuador completed a memorable comeback. The victory officially secured La Tricolor's passage into the World Cup 2026 knockout stage as one of the tournament's best third-placed teams after finishing the group stage with four points.
