World Cup 2026 Corner: Brazil Top Group C After 3-0 Win Over Haiti

Brazil returned to winning ways and temporarily moved to the top of Group C in their 2026 FIFA World Cup campaign following a comfortable 3-0 victory over Haiti. Selecao finally produced the attacking display many had been waiting for, with Matheus Cunha scoring twice and Vinicius Junior netting his second goal of the tournament.

Brazil Comfortably Beat Haiti to Top Group C

Following their frustrating draw against Morocco in the opening fixture, pressure was beginning to mount on Carlo Ancelotti's side as they faced the Concacaf representatives. Needing a victory to boost both confidence and their qualification hopes, Brazil came out with an aggressive approach right from kick-off.

After having an early goal ruled out, Selecao eventually found the breakthrough in the 23rd minute through Matheus Cunha's clinical finish. The Manchester United forward doubled his tally 13 minutes later after converting an assist from Vinicius Junior.

The Real Madrid star then added Brazil's third goal with a composed finish in first-half stoppage time, giving the five-time world champions a commanding 3-0 advantage heading into the break.

In the second half, Brazil lowered their intensity slightly but still managed to create several promising opportunities, although they were unable to add to their tally.

Haiti, meanwhile, struggled to generate enough attacking quality to trouble Brazil's defense after the interval. The 3-0 scoreline remained unchanged until the final whistle, with Brazil temporarily moving to the top of Group C on goal difference ahead of Morocco, while Haiti's World Cup hopes effectively came to an end.

Despite still having one game remaining, Haiti can no longer qualify for the knockout stage, including via the best third-placed route, after suffering back-to-back defeats. Brazil, meanwhile, will battle Scotland in their final group fixture with both top spot and qualification momentum at stake.

Match Notes

Brazil

  • Selecao showed significant improvement against Haiti, although they can still enhance their attacking tempo and defensive concentration.
  • Ancelotti's side may also have concerns over Raphinha's condition after the Barcelona winger was forced off through injury.
  • The final group match against Scotland remains crucial, not only to confirm qualification but also to determine Brazil's finishing position in Group C.

Haiti

  • The 3-0 defeat effectively ended Haiti's World Cup journey, as two consecutive losses mean they can no longer progress to the knockout stage.
  • The Grenadiers still have one match remaining against Morocco, although it will primarily be an opportunity to end their campaign on a positive note.
