World Cup 2026 Corner: Japan Ended Tunisia World Cup Journey
Japan boosted their hopes of reaching the knockout stage at the 2026 FIFA World Cup after securing a convincing 4-0 victory over Tunisia in their second Group F match. The emphatic win also confirmed the end of Tunisia's World Cup journey, as the North African side suffered a second consecutive defeat.
Dominant Japan Take Down Tunisia 4-0
After drawing 2-2 with the Netherlands in their opening fixture, Japan knew that a victory against Tunisia would be vital to keep their qualification hopes firmly on track. Hajime Moriyasu's men wasted little time imposing themselves on the match and were rewarded after just four minutes when Daichi Kamada opened the scoring.
The Blue Samurai doubled their advantage in the 31st minute through Ayase Ueda, whose powerful long-range effort gave Japan a comfortable 2-0 lead heading into the halftime break.
Japan maintained their attacking intensity after the restart and added two more goals to complete an impressive performance. Junya Ito made it 3-0 before Ueda grabbed his second goal of the match in the 83rd minute to seal a dominant 4-0 victory.
The result leaves Japan level on four points with the Netherlands at the top of Group F, although the Dutch currently lead the standings on goal difference. The Blue Samurai will now turn their attention to a decisive final group match against Sweden, with qualification and potentially top spot still up for grabs.
Meanwhile, Tunisia's World Cup campaign has come to an end. Under FIFA's new head-to-head tiebreak regulations for this tournament, the Eagles of Carthage can no longer finish among the best third-placed teams after losing their opening two matches. Their final group fixture against the Netherlands will now be played only for pride.
